Nittany Lions Lead 'Cats At Halftime

After a very ugly start to the game, Northwestern was able to recover to bring their deficit to three at the halftime break. Penn State leads the Wildcats 26-23.

Penn State started the game with an 18-2 lead. After that, Northwestern responded with a 10-0 run, which cut the score to 18-12.

The Wildcats found their shooting stroke after the horrible start. Michael Thompson leads all scorers with 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while John Shurna pitched in with seven points. Jeff Brooks leads the Nittany Lions with nine points at the break.

Northwestern shot just 32% in the first half, compared to Penn State's 54.5%.

Early in the first half, Northwestern came out with a 2-3 zone defense, which faltered. The Wildcats adjusted to a 1-3-1 zone defense, which was able to control the Nittany Lions.

History was made at the opening tipoff as Michael ‘Juice' Thompson played in his 122nd game as a Wildcat, breaking the program record. This also happens to be Thompson's 122nd-consecutive start, putting him fourth among active players in the NCAA.
