Big Ten Tournament Game 1 halftime score: Northwestern: 32, Minnesota: 30

After one half of play in the Big Ten Tournament, Northwestern heads to the locker room with a 32-30 lead.

Michael Thompson leads all scorers with 13 points, while Drew Crawford finished the half with six poinits. Ralph Sampson III leads all Minnesota scorers with 10 points.

Northwestern started out hot, taking a seven-point lead past the midway point of the first half. But Tubby Smith and the Gophers switched over to a zone defense, which helped contain the Northwestern offensive attack. After that, Minnesota went on a 10-0 run, which gave the Gophers a 24-21 lead. Both teams settled in for the remainder of the second half, with Northwestern taking the two-point lead into the locker room.

The Wildcats are playing shorthanded, having three players out for the game. Alex Marcotullio found his way into the starting shooting guard position, filling in for Mike Capocci, who was filling in for usual starter Jershon Cobb. Marcotullio finished the first half with five points on 2-3 from the field.

With few options available on the Northwestern bench, Bill Carmody has turned to Nick Fruendt and Ivan Peljusic for minutes—each who will likely finish with their career-high in minutes played.
