NU Extends Fitzgerald

Northwestern is set to make an announcement early tomorrow morning in regards to head coach Pat Fitzgerald, and sources have confirmed Fitzgerald will receive a multi-year contract extension.

Financial terms will not be released because Northwestern is a private university, but multiple sources have indicated Fitzgerald is expected to receive a significant extension.

According to reports from the Chicago Tribune, the deal is expected to run through 2019, with added assurances that the football facilities will receive upgrades in the future.

This extension has been in the works since January, when Michigan contacted Fitzgerald for their coaching vacancy.

During his five seasons as head coach, Fitzgerald owns a 34-29 overall record, and has guided the Wildcats to three-straight bowl appearances for the first time in the program's history.

Both Pat Fitzgerald and NU athletic director Jim Phillips will address the media Tuesday morning in a teleconference. PurpleWildcats.com will bring more coverage then.
