NU To Play In Charleston Classic

Northwestern Athletic Communications Announced on Thursday that the NU men's basketball team will travel to South Carolina to take part in the 2011 Charleston Classic, held on November 17, 18, and 20. Here is the press release from NU Athletic Communications.

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern men's basketball will travel to South Carolina to compete in the 2011 Charleston Classic to be held Nov. 17, 18 and 20. The other teams previously announced for the fourth-annual Classic include Georgia Tech, LSU, Saint Joseph's, Seton Hall, Tulsa, Virginia Commonwealth and Western Kentucky.

The 2011 Charleston Classic will feature 12 games over the three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in a championship match Sunday, Nov. 20.

The Southern Conference (SoCon) will serve as the event's sponsoring conference for the fourth straight year.

Georgetown won the 2010 Charleston Classic, with Miami (Fla.) winning in 2009 and Clemson taking the title in the inaugural tournament in 2008.

Northwestern is set to return four starters and nine letterwinners from last year's squad which went 20-14 overall, including 7-11 in Big Ten play, and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
