Wildcats Get Mahoney

Malvern Preparatory School offensive lineman Connor Mahoney just pulled the trigger to play for the Northwestern Wildcats, however he let us know he'll be playing on the defensive line for them.

Connor Mahoney, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound lineman from Malvern, Pa., has given a verbal commitment to play for Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald and the Northwestern Wildcats.

"I just committed to Northwestern," Mahoney said. "I just talked to Coach Fitzgerald tonight and let him know I wanted to be part of the program. He was really excited about the commitment and very happy to have me as part of the program now."

Mahoney had seven other schools to choose from and we asked why he picked Northwestern over them.

"It was really a combination of big-time football and big-time academics," Mahoney explained. "I was also just so comfortable with the coaching staff and the program itself that I knew I wanted to be there."

"My relationship with my defensive line coach (Mahoney will play defensive tackle for the Wildcats) played a big role in my decision as I'm very comfortable with him," Mahoney added. "My parents are also ecstatic about the school. They really support this decision and think it's a great fit for me."

As a junior, Mahoney was first-team All-Inter-Ac on both offense and defense. He was also first-team All-City and All-County and was honorable mention All-State.
