"It's going to be great exposure," Sean Culkin said. "I'm hoping to do very well and see what happen. This is the first step towards [the coaches] seeing me in action, and we'll go from there."
Culkin met with NU coaches at his high school in the spring, and again for an extended time on a recent visit to the Northwestern campus. Culkin said he has had a very positive reaction to the Northwestern staff thus far.
"I like the coaches a lot," he said. "They are very dedicated to getting players better, and they're all great guys."
Culkin also got a chance to tour campus with teammate Traveon Henry – who holds an offer from NU – while on the visit. Culkin's reaction to campus was also extremely positive.
"We got a tour around campus, which was really cool," Culkin said. "It happened to be on a day when a lot of students were walking around campus, so that was really exciting."
Culkin ranked academics as the most important factor in his recruiting, and also listed several other factors that led him to be interested in Northwestern.
"It's one of my top choices because of great academics," he said. "When people graduate from Northwestern, they are really set up with that degree…Also, Chicago is a really cool place. Northwestern isn't in Chicago, but it's close enough to the city."
Culkin said he thought the camp today would mostly involve position drills, and working in-depth with the tight end coaches. Culkin is excited for the opportunity to show the coaches what he brings to the table.
"The coaches are excited I'm here. They haven't seen me play before and they're excited to see what I've got," he said. "Northwestern is a great school and I really want to see what I can do today about getting an offer."
