Down, But Not Out

Carmel (IN) safety Jimmy Herman picked up his fourth and fifth offers from Harvard and Purdue. Now, the standout safety says Northwestern—once his top school—is trailing the Crimson and Boilermakers.

"(Northwestern) is honestly behind Purdue and Harvard," said Jimmy Herman.

Herman (6-4, 205) now has five offers from Northwestern, Purdue, Harvard, Central Michigan, and Western Michigan.

The Wildcats became the first BCS school to offer the standout safety after his impressive performance at Northwestern's one-day camp. Herman's original intentions were to commit by the end of June, but after giving it some thought, he decided to explore Harvard and Purdue a little closer.

Herman recently finished visits in West Lafayette and Cambridge, and enjoyed both trips. With two new favorites, Herman's recruitment has a new look but that doesn't completely rule out Northwestern.

I don't think I can completely rule them out because it's a great school with a very good football program, but it's not my first choice," Herman said.

Now, Herman has pushed back decision time two to three weeks. He is working to decide which school is his favorite, but remains split between Harvard and Purdue.

At first, I didn't think I would like Harvard, but they were impressive, so I'm slowing down to make sure I make the best decision for me."
