Joseph has not had an opportunity to visit Evanston, and said though the location is does not effect his interest, it does make it more difficult for a visit.
"Location is not really a problem," he said. "It's just far to go to camps because you either have to drive or get a flight, so its pretty hard to go up there."
Joseph met with several NU coaches at his high school this spring, but hasn't spoken with Northwestern since, despite holding an offer from NU. Joseph also has offers from Florida, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Michigan State, South Carolina, and Central Florida.
"I have narrowed down my list, and Northwestern isn't in there," Joseph said. "I'm going to see how the fall goes and see who else comes in the mix."
Joseph said it was possible that Northwestern could work its way into his top list, but that he isn't certain yet. As of now, Joseph said he has "no plan to visit Northwestern."
Asked what factors were most important for him in choosing a school, Joseph listed his comfort in the defense, playing time, academics, and the coaching staff.
Whether or not Northwestern comes back into the mix, Joseph said he hopes to finish his recruitment on the early side.
"I would like to make a decision as soon as I can, as soon as I know exactly where I want to go" he said. "Right now I don't have an exact date for it."
