Valentine Likes NU Coaches

One of the many campers at the Chicagoland Showcase, four-star DT Vincent Valentine left Northwestern with a positive feeling about the Wildcats and their coaching staff.

"They seem like the coaches that will get after you," said Vincent Valentine. "I really like that. I want that in a college coach."

Before the beginning of the camp, NU head coach Pat Fitzgerald spoke to the campers. Valentine was paying close attention and became enamored with the Wildcats and their head coach.

Later in the camp, Valentine spoke with other Northwestern coaches about his recruitment and where he stands. He said, "I think I'm pretty high on their list."

One of the coaches who Valentine spoke with about Shane Mertz and his decision. Like Valentine, Mertz also had double-digit offers, but fell in love with Northwestern.

Overall, Valentine felt like the NU coaches were showing strong interest.

Coaches talked to me like he really wanted me and was telling me he really wants me to come up there again and spend time with the players," he said.

Valentine (6-4, 318) has offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Penn State, Wisconsin, and many more.

Northwestern has not yet offered, but the standout defensive tackle remains optimistic he could receive an offer. Valentine says Nebraska is his top school, but remains very interested in the Wildcats.

"One of the major things I'm looking for in a school is great academics," Valentine said. "Northwestern has some of the greatest academics in the nation."

Valentine has a few specific things which he hopes to find in the perfect school.

"When I go to their campus, I want to feel like I'm at home and it's the perfect fit for me," he said. "I also want great academics. In case my football career doesn't work out, I want something to fall back on with a great degree."
