Kicker Impressed With Northwestern

Matt Micucci is in a very unique recruiting situation, trying to gain offers for a position different than his primary position in high school. A quarterback for Adlai Stevenson (IL) HS, Micucci is planning to be a kicker in college.

"I'm only 5-11, so I'm not big enough to be a D-1 quarterback," he said.

So far, Micucci doesn't hold any offers, but has received interest from Northwestern, Illinois, Yale, Western Michigan, and "some D-3 schools."

Micucci took unofficial visits to Northwestern, Illinois, and Purdue over spring break and also went to camps over the summer.

Just as he hasn't picked a favorite school, he didn't have a favorite visit, either. However, he was impressed with his visit to Northwestern.

"The people were very nice," he said. "A lot of graduate assistants and coaches came up to talk to me. I felt at home there. That's what I liked the best. How energetic coach [Pat] Fitzgerald was, it was great."

Micucci plans on going back to Northwestern for its camp on July 27.

While his visits have gone well, Micucci is still looking for his first offer, and doesn't think any schools are close to offering at this time.

"They definitely said on their list and everything, it's different for kickers," he said. "They have to see how kickers do this year and decide if [they] want to stay with them. Most kickers aren't going to get offers for awhile."

Because he likely won't be offered for awhile, Micucci doesn't plan on making his college choice any time soon.

"It's definitely going to be after my season," he said. "[It will] probably be in December."
