"I still think Northwestern is more of an elite school in education and football," Summers said. "Hopefully in the next couple weeks, I'll go ahead and make a decision."
Originally, Summers had planned to make his commitment before the start of the school year. However, he was not able to visit Northwestern as he originally had hoped.
NU defensive backs coach Jerry Brown has been pushing Summers to visit campus. That may happen in early September. For Summers, that visit may mean a lot.
"If I get a chance to meet the coaching staff, I think that will have a factor in making the choice," said Summers. "If it comes down to it and I can't come down there, I'll probably make the choice then. I guess we'll have to wait."
For now, Summers is planning his decision for early September. He's hoping to make a visit to Northwestern before that time comes. Summers is planning to use that time for more evaluation. He is going to consult with his parents and coaches for guidance.
"They don't want me to make a decision ASAP," Summers said when talking about his parents and coaches. "They don't want me to hurry up and commit anywhere. I still have time and want to see which other schools offer. It's just a waiting game."
