Tuesday Practice Report

The Wildcats continued preparations for their game with Army as they held a two-hour practice in Evanston. Get the details from the sidelines in this PurpleWildcats.com practice report.

• It's starting to really feel like fall. It was a chilly, breezy morning in Evanston. The Wildcats were in full pads as they began preparations for their Saturday game with Army.

• As Northwestern practiced, the sound of jets flying and the tune of Army's fight song blared across the field.

Pat Fitzgerald was moving between each field during the practice.

• Fitzgerald always preaches discipline and intensity, but that is more so a point this week than it ordinarily is. Fitzgerald said, "We've got to be on our game, we've got to be as disciplined as we have all year. If not, we'll be talking after the game how they exploited our lack of discipline."

Kain Colter continued to take reps with the first-team offense. He is noticeably throwing the ball with more confidence and speed.

• Colter said each practice has been a key in his development. Colter said he is working on becoming a better pocket passer. Mick McCall is worried he is beginning to get happy feet and feeling too free to scramble.

• Through the past two weeks, Colter said he has gained some self-confidence. "It's a confidence boost getting two wins," he said.

• Colter said he does not have a go-to receiver, but has grown comfortable with the group. He said, "Just gaining chemistry, timing, and ball-placement with those guys is huge."

• Freshman receiver Christian Jones was on the other end of a few impressive Colter passes. He has an incredible leaping ability, which has made him a downfield threat.

• The play of the day came from freshman running back Treyvon Green, who showed off his power with a stiff-arm on a defender, then carried the ball to the endzone. He is a threat with speed and power.

• Fitzgerald addressed the challenge of facing a service academy—where discipline is taught all throughout the campus. "It's going to be as big of a challenge as we've had all year," Fitzgerald said.

• The Wildcats take the field tomorrow morning at 8:20. PurpleWildcats.com will be there with a practice report and video.
