The Wildcats have yet another tough road challenge as they square off with Army along the Hudson River. The Black Knights are hungry for their first win, while Northwestern is looking to escape West Point with their unblemished record. Here are some storylines for Saturday's game.
Northwestern blog ‘Lake The Posts' came through with a one-of-a-kind experience for Wildcat fans. Prior to the game, 700 purple-clad fans will travel up the Hudson River from New York City to West Point. Not a bad way to tailgate for a football game. Kudos to LTP and all who have made this event a success.
How much Persa will we see?
For the third consecutive week, we're left wondering if and how much Dan Persa will play. Pat Fitzgerald is smiling as outsiders guess how many snaps, if any, Persa will get. Ah, the element of surprise.
If Persa is unable to play, Kain Colter will make his third start at quarterback. He has proven himself to be a solid backup thus far. Colter will likely see a majority of reps on Saturday, but Persa may get a few snaps.
Will NU avoid mistakes?
The Wildcats have reeled off two wins, but have not played mistake-free football. A few big plays kept both Boston College and Eastern Illinois in the games.
Northwestern needs to keep the Black Knights from making big plays. This gives added pressure to the Wildcats' safeties—especially Ibraheim Campbell, who is making his first start on Saturday. NU has to prevent the big play on defense, and they will win.
Pat Fitzgerald constantly preaches it to his team. It's a simple one-word moniker. FINISH! The Wildcats have not closed out games as Fitzgerald would hope. Boston College was near tying the game in week one, and Eastern Illinois scored 14 late points, though against the Wildcats' second-string defense.
Northwestern needs to follow up Fitzgerald's plead and finish out the game on Saturday. The Wildcats are a veteran-laden team that should not have fourth quarter problems. When time is ticking away, NU needs to follow up on Fitzgerald's words—finish.
Emma's Prediction: Northwestern: 38, Army: 13
