Butt Enjoys NU Visit

Junior defensive end Jake Butt made his second trip to Evanston for the Wildcats' game with Penn State, and enjoyed the trip. Get the details in this PurpleWildcats.com recruiting update.

Jake Butt is still one-and-a-half years from National Signing Day, but he has already garnered interest from a number of college football programs around the country.

The junior defensive end from Pickerington North (OH) HS has offers from Bowling Green, Toledo, Kansas Sate, Buffalo, UCLA, Syracuse, Duke, Iowa and Northwestern and has also been receiving interest from Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Kentucky and Louisville, among others.

Since he is only a junior, Butt isn't allowed to take official visits, but he has taken unofficial visits to Northwestern, Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan, Bowling Green and Toledo.

Butt has been to Northwestern twice now and enjoyed both visits.

"I loved it there," he said. "I went first up there during the summer for a camp and got a lot of good attention. I went to the game (against Penn State this weekend) and the game environment made it better."

Despite the loss, Butt said it was still a good experience because he "got to see how the offense played." He plans to go back to Evanston for NU's junior day in the spring.

Butt plans to see a number of different campuses before he lists a top five or a favorite, but noted the similarities between Northwestern and the other schools he visited.

"It was similar experience, but I got a lot of individual attention going (to Northwestern)," he said. "I got to talk to all the coaches, Coach Fitzgerald. It was similar (to the others), but also good at the same time."

With so many schools interested, Butt likely can't see all of them, but he plans to get to as many as possible.

He also does not know when he will make a college decision yet.

"I don't think it'll be any time soon," he said. "I don't have an exact time table but I won't be making a decision any time soon."
