Hope High On Northwestern

Northwestern is in the market for a linebacker in the class of 2012, and Houston-area linebacker Garrett Hope is currently holding an offer from the Wildcats. What's the latest with the three-star standout? Get the latest in this PurpleWildcats.com recruiting update.

With less than two months to go until National Signing Day, The Woodlands (TX) HS middle linebacker Garrett Hope has set a top three.

"West Virginia, New Mexico and Northwestern, right now, are my top three," he said.

However, Hope, a three-star prospect and the No. 39 middle linebacker in his class, according to Scout.com, hasn't heard from the Northwestern coaches in a while and it has caught him off guard.

"We last talked about two months ago," he said. "I haven't heard anything and I'm not really sure what's going on at this point. I think after this dead period that's going on right now I'll figure stuff out."

Despite the confusion with Northwestern, Hope said he still likes a lot of aspects about the school.

"I like the Chicago area," he said. "I like the fact that it's a good academic school. The Big Ten conference, playing against Ohio State would be a lot of fun."

Hope has been to Chicago, but never to Evanston. He hopes to see the campus on an official visit but hasn't been able to set one up.

"Northwestern hasn't really called and talked to me about setting anything up or else I would," he said.

He has set up visits to both New Mexico and West Virginia in January. Despite never seeing either school, he sees positives in both, but will learn more on his visits.

"I've ever been to West Virginia and I've never been to New Mexico so I'm not really sure (about either), besides the fact that West Virginia is moving conferences to the Big 12 and New Mexico is offering for both sports, baseball and football."

While Hope would like to play both sports in college, he said that isn't a necessity and he would choose football over baseball.

He plans to choose his school in late January, "right before Signing Day."
