Banks Holds NU Offer

Harvey Thornton (Ill.) junior CB Jalen Banks has a Big Ten and a MAC offer to his name already.

Harvey Thornton is a school that has steadily produced talent over the years under head coach Bill Mosel. With famous alums like Antwaan Randle-El, Napoleon Harris and others, the Wildcats are a regular source of recruits in the Chicago area.

In the 2013 class, they may have one of the state's best in cornerback Jalen Banks, a 6'0, 190-lb cover man who already holds two FBS offers.

"Western Michigan University and Northwestern University both offered me," he said. "The Northwestern one was my very first offer."

To receive the initial offer and have it be from a home state Big Ten school was a thrill for Banks.

"I was shocked...not necessarily shocked, but I was excited. I was excited because I'm definitely considering going to Northwestern, especially once they had offered. I've definitely been keeping in touch with them because they are one of my choices, but I felt like I had accomplished something."

The offer came when he took a trip up to Evanston.

"Coach Fitzgerald took me off to the side and offered me a scholarship. It was an unofficial visit for the Penn State game. It was definitely a nice campus. The coaching staff, all of those guys are dedicated and excited about their team. Their have their players' best interest in mind and they're disciplined, hard workers."

The Broncos and Wildcats may have company soon, as a host of other schools have shown interest.

"Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Michigan State are the main schools I constantly speak with in some form or fashion. Bowling Green, I don't know if I'm going yet, but Coach Scheier from BG tried to get me up to their junior day."

Scout will see Banks in action next Monday at the Core 6 Winter Showcase.
