Jay Arnold is a few steps closer to a college commitment. The junior defensive end has five favorite schools—listed in no particular order—Northwestern, Baylor, Texas A&M, Tulsa, and Oklahoma, which has not yet extended an offer.

The Sooners have been Arnold's lifelong favorite team. Each of the other four schools have become Arnold's favorites during his recruitment.

"I really like the balance of academics and athletics," Arnold said.

Arnold has visited Baylor and Texas A&M for its Junior Days, and hopes to tour Northwestern and Oklahoma during the spring. He is working out plans to visit Evanston with NU recruiting coordinator Matt MacPherson.

The defensive end is planning to give his verbal commitment toward the end of March of beginning of April—after he finishes taking campus visits.

Arnold does not have a leader and neither team has an edge. He hopes the campus visits help make the decision-making process clear.

"It's just going to come down to where I'm most comfortable at and where I want to be at," Arnold said. "It'll be nothing solid; it's just going to come down to a gut feeling."

During his junior season, Arnold averaged 1.1 sacks per game while helping his team to an 11-2 record.
