Spring Practice Has Arrived

Northwestern took Kirby-Flanagan indoor field by storm Saturday with the first practice of 2012 Spring ball.

It was a spirited Saturday for the 'Cats as they began spring ball Saturday.

Sure, it may not have felt like Spring in Evanston, and at 10AM when the team took the field it was 33 degrees and flurrying -- but Spring ball went on inside Kirby Flanagan Indoor Facility.

There were tons of spectators on hand, including several top QB recruits Bolingbrook High's Aaron Bailey and Maine South's Matt Alviti. Those two spent the entire practice, to no ones surprise, intently taking in the QB play.

Speaking of under-center, Kain Colter was taking the majority of reps with the first team. In a day that basically focused on getting back to the basics.

It was high tempo day, with lots of reps -- in no pads. The shoulder pads will be donned on Tuesday, and full pads will be coming next Saturday.

Among the on lookers were WR Kyle Prater and his father, who remains intelligible to practice because he is not enrolling in Northwestern until the fall.

As far as on the field, DL Brian Arnfelt looked very comfortable, and got vertical enough to bat down two passes during the scrimmage at the end of practice. Throughout the entire practice, sophomore Venric Mark was a jack of all trades, as a receiver that nearly all the QBs targeted, but also as a shifty and quick running back.
