Taphorn Offered By Northwestern

Northwestern offered junior forward Nate Taphorn, coming on the weekend of his breakout performance at the Nike Spring Showdown AAU tournament. He discusses the offer in this PurpleWildcats.com update.

Nate Taphorn turned some heads in Merrilvlille, Ind. during the Nike Spring Showdown. One of those heads was Tavaras Hardy's. As Taphorn and the Illinois Wolves shipped home, Hardy called the coaching staff and extended an offer for the junior forward.

"It's obviously a really nice school, very good program that they're building up," Taphorn said of Northwestern. "It really established itself, in my eyes. I'll definitely be looking into them and try to make a visit."

Taphorn, a 6-foot-6 forward, holds offers from Northwestern, Bradley, Colorado State, Creighton, Southern Illinois, UIC and a number of others. Miami also extended an offer today.

Thus far, Taphorn has yet to name any favorites or rank his options, but said that Northwestern has his attention.

"They do catch my eye a little bit," said Taphorn. "I look forward to showing some interest in them as well as staying in touch with my current schools."

Northwestern coaches believe Taphorn is worthy of an offer, but also look forward to watching him show continued improvements.

"They said they were really interested in me," said Taphorn "And look forward to watching me come along ... they said they're really interested and want to see me play more."

Taphorn is expecting to give his verbal commitment during the fall, before his senior season.
