Goggins Likes NU's Academics

2013 prospect AJ Goggin (Ill.) talks with Fox Sports Next about what he's looking for from a school and football program.

The recruiting process can be an anxious time for young athletes – just ask A.J. Goggin, a 2013 DE/OLB prospect out of Lakes Community High School (Ill.).

"I'm constantly checking my phone to see if coaches have called," Goggin said.

So far the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder has been hearing from schools such as Northwestern, Air Force, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Penn, South Dakota State and North Dakota, but there is another school that is also on Goggin's radar.

"I'm also interested in Purdue because of the engineering program they offer," he said.

Strong academics is a facet that is not lost on Goggin, who says Northwestern stands out of all of the schools that have contacted him. The Illinois Coaches Association selected him to the All-State Academic Team in 2011.

"I'm looking for a school with elite academics, but on the same token, the school shouldn't lack an urge to win football games," Goggin said.

In his junior season, Goggin broke the Lakes all-time record in tackles for loss (7 for 26 yards), and set the season and career records ford sacks with 6.5.
