Cartwright Set For Big Opportunity

Olentangy Liberty (OH) junior linebacker Grant Cartwright has a lot of pressure riding on his upcoming camp appearance at Northwestern, where he will fight for a scholarship offer. However, Cartwright has built a confident, positive mindset.

Olentangy (OH) Liberty linebacker Grant Cartwright has been given the opportunity to attend Northwestern's camp, with the hopes of earning a scholarship offer.

There is plenty of pressure riding on the 6-foot-4, 228-pounder, who will need a strong showing during the one-day camp. However, he has built a mindset to withstand the pressure.

"When I'm in a competitive situation, I get confident, thinking I'm going to dominate this," Cartwright said. "I need to leave it on the field and have no regrets. That's my personal thing, I can't worry about what could happen if I have bad day, I need to focus on the positives."

Cartwright will also attend camps at Cincinnati, Ohio State and Pittsburgh, but the showing in Evanston will be his most important. Cartwright lists Northwestern as one of his top schools, so the opportunity to fight for an offer is not one he takes for granted.

"My plan of attack going into it is be the best," said Cartwright. "Be first in everything, never lose. It's going to be really competitive, but you have to set yourself aside, show them you're a leader and not take losing. You have to win everything."

Since his junior season came to an end, Cartwright has worked hard to improve during the offseason, specifically targeting college camps as a vital chance.

"I've gotten bigger, stronger and faster since last season, and I think I'm going to be ready the day that camp comes," Cartwright said. "I think I can really impress the coaches with how much I've improved from last season. It's really important that I have a good showing that day."

Cartwright has been in frequent contact with Northwestern's recruiting coordinator, Matt MacPherson, his lead recruiter, and recently met with him in person while visiting campus in Evanston. Cartwright watched the Wildcats' practice and toured campus.

"I really like the whole feel of the campus, the football program, the facilities," he said. "Academically, it sounded pretty outstanding, as well. I would say Northwestern is probably one of my top priorities in college choices right now."

Cartwright holds one scholarship offer, coming from Army. He has received heavy interest from Northwestern, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, Air Force and Navy.
