Wildcats offer Texas cornerback

Judson (TX) High School cornerback Jarveon Williams wowed Northwestern with an impressive junior campaign, and that paid off on Tuesday night, when the Wildcats extended a scholarship offer. Williams now has a new favorite. Find out who it is inside.

When Jarveon Williams first met Northwestern assistant coach Jerry Brown in the spring of 2011, he began to do research on the school and its football program, and developed an interest in the Wildcats.

Since that point, NU has expressed strong interest in the cornerback. On Tuesday night, Brown called to extend Williams a scholarship offer.

"To finally get that offer from Northwestern was great," said Williams. "I've been doing a lot of research and it's a great university, just a good school."

Earlier Tuesday, Williams received a message from NU head coach Pat Fitzgerald, who filled him in on what it means to be a Wildcat.

"He just explained to me their football players are hard-nosed," said Williams. "He saw I was a football player, made plays, big hits and can cover people."

Williams, a 5-foot-9, 185-pounder cornerback, currently holds one other offer from Rice, and is receiving strong interest from BYU and Purdue. His newest offer stands out above all.

"(Northwestern is) at the top, honestly," said Williams. "At this point, I would take Northwestern over Rice, but I'm going to wait it out and explore my future options."

One of the main reasons why Williams has identified Northwestern as his favorite is due to its academic prestige.

"It's an academic school, so their athletes are truly student-athletes," Williams said. "That's big where I come from."

Williams isn't planning on making a decision anytime soon. He is set to explore each of his options, and is setting January as his target time for a commitment.

"I want to get everything taken care of," he said. "then I want to visit campuses, see what each environment is like, then I'll start narrowing down my choices."
