In the dog days of summer, Northwestern's 2013 recruiting class has already taken shape. Pat Fitzgerald and the Wildcats have received 15 verbal commitments to date. goes by the numbers to look at what Northwestern's class looks like thus far.

• For the sixth consecutive year, Northwestern has landed 1 prospect from the talent-loaded state of Florida. Three-star outside linebacker Anthony Walker, a product of Miami Pace High School, gave the Wildcats his verbal commitment on July 17.

• Peninsula, OH. kicker Hunter Niswander committed on the spot after camping at Northwestern, marking 2 straight years in which the Wildcats have landed a specialist.

• Northwestern coaches log many miles in the state of Texas. Thus far, the Wildcats have added 3 commitments from Lone Star State products.

Matthew Alviti's commitment to Northwestern marked five 4-star commitments under Pat Fitzgerald. The only other to play on the offensive side of the ball was Adam DePietro of the 2012 recruiting class.

• The Wildcats have added 5 prospects on the defensive side of the ball. Eric Joraskie, Kyle Queiro, Matt Harris, Anthony Walker and Brett Walsh represent the future Northwestern defenders added to the 2013 recruiting class.

• It takes efforts from the entire Northwestern coaching staff to recruit prospects from around the country. To this point, 6 different NU coaches have served as the lead recruiter for each of the 15 verbal commitments.

• NU has had plenty of success recruiting prospects in Big Ten states. 7 of the Wildcats' 2013 prospects come from states that are home to Big Ten schools.

• June 8 was a big day for Northwestern's 2013 class. It was on this day in which the Wildcats landed three-star lineman Brad North, two-star receiver Macan Wilson, then two-star lineman Tyler Lancaster, who attended a camp in Evanston that morning. The Wildcats also landed three prospects in a day for their 2012 class.

• The month of June was a big one for Northwestern, as it landed 9 prospects. The threesome of North, Wilson and Lancaster started it with a bang, then three-star running back Warren Long closed out the month with his verbal commitment.

• With the group of 15 prospects, Northwestern currently ranks ninth in the Big 10 rankings, but 36th overall. Michigan State, Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa aren't too far away from the Wildcats in the updated rankings.

• One of Northwestern's prized pickups for its 2013 class is Sam Coverdale. The Chagrin Falls, OH. prospect received 11 scholarship offers from BCS schools and 17 total. He accepted NU's offer on June 11.

• Four-star quarterback Matthew Alviti is rated as the top commitment in Northwestern's class. He is ranked as the No. 12 quarterback in the entire class of 2013.

• One of the main reasons Alviti landed with Northwestern is the location, which made it easy for him to visit campus in Evanston. Maine South High School in Park Ridge is located 13 miles away from Ryan Field.

• It is key for any school to bring prospects to campus and sell them. Northwestern has hosted 14 of its current commits on campus visits. Only Chatsworth, Calif. running back prospect Xavier Menifield has yet to visit Evanston. Even so, he felt comfortable enough with the Wildcats to give his commitment.

• The 2013 recruiting class marks the fastest that Northwestern has reached 15 verbal commitments under Pat Fitzgerald's leadership. In its 2012 class, the Wildcats reached 15 by August 28. One class prior, Jordan Perkins became the Wildcats' 15th verbal on January 22.
