Long Shots: Practice Impressions

In this exclusive PurpleWildcat's practice report -- check out what the mood of NU's Wednesdays practice was like, plus the standout performers.

Wednesday was a beautiful sunny day as Northwestern took the field in Evanston, checking in at about 80-degrees.

The Wide receiver corps truly showed their strength Wednesday, even though the practice started off more on the chill side, it wound up being pretty up-tempo.

Another thing that stood out was how talkative the players were, it was a little chippy, (one of my favorite words) and very up-beat.

An example? Lots of clapping and cheering for each respective side when they would make big plays. Plenty of clapping.

Two receivers that really stood out were Kyle Prater -- who just has incredible reach. And Demetrious Fields who really did ran some great routes and had some big catches in high pressure goal line situations.

Another player that made some big plays on the defensive side of the ball was senior linebacker Damien Proby, who had one really nice interception during live play.

Two freshman that I covered while they were in high school, former Joliet Catholic running back Malin Jones and Wheaton Warrenville South alum Dan Vitale I payed special attention too -- and both seemed to really be fitting in well with the offense. In fact, both saw time with the 2's and Jones had a couple good red zone plays.

And of course, what is becoming pretty normal and routine, Kain Colter had a very good day and threw some nice balls.

Stay on PurpleWildcats for the latest on all things Northwestern as the season begins to heat up.
