Notes: Naptime, new jerseys and Nebraska

Northwestern is back to work, following its sixth victory of the season. This week, a challenge looms as the Nebraska Cornhuskers travel to Evanston. PurpleWildcats offers notes and quotes from NU's Monday press conference.

-- The Wildcat players meeting with the media offered a surprise -- black jerseys. Northwesten will don black jerseys and pants for Saturday's game with Nebraska.

-- When Northwestern last played a 2:30 game -- week three against Vanderbilt -- the players were a bit sluggish. That's because 2:30 is many Wildcats' usual nap time, with practice each morning. As a result, Pat Fitzgerald has set a team mandatory nap prior to Saturday's start. "We'll come down refreshed then be ready to kick some butt," quarterback Kain Colter said.

-- The only change on Northwestern's depth chart comes at cornerback, where Daniel Jones --has replaced Quinn Evans opposite of Nick VanHoose.

-- What helped the Wildcats top Nebraska in 2011? "We were able to cause some key turnovers," said Pat Fitzgerald, addressing one of the biggest difference-makers. Added safety Ibraheim Campbell: "That's something that we harp on as a football team ... we've got to protect the football (on offense) and get it back (on defense)."

-- Last year, Pat Fitzgerald joked he'd call the state police to block Nebraska fans migrating along I-80. "They didn't take my call," Fitzgerald updated.

-- Fitz was asked to discuss safety Ibraheim Campbell. He said the sophomore is the most experienced player in the secondary, even in just his second season.

-- Saturday's game marks the third consecutive one in which Northwestern faces a team coming off its bye. "It's a huge advantage, but we can't control that. We've just got to go out and work and try to get better."

-- Fitzgerald was asked to address the notion of winning ugly. "It is what it is, when you get into conference play," he said. "You got to find a way to win on Saturday. I see [the media] after the game and answer some great questions, then get in the car and get out dodge."

-- Senior safety Jared Carpenter has added stability to Northwestern's secondary. "We have meshed pretty well," said Campbell of his fellow safety.

-- The Wildcats anticipate an exciting atmosphere on Saturday at Ryan Field: "It should be a pretty cool environment," said guard Brian Mulroe. "It should be pretty fun."
