Butler caps strong season

Joliet Catholic (Ill.) Academy standout J.B. Butler is likely to add recruiting interest once college coaches get a look at his highlight film. The two-way junior discusses his recruitment in this PurpleWildcats update.

The magic ran out for Joliet Catholic (Ill.) in the semifinals. After a regular season of highs and lows, the Hilltoppers reeled off three consecutive playoff wins, but fell just shy to Montini with the title game in reach.

It was a strong campaign for two-way standout J.B. Butler, showed his hard work from the offseason paid off. Still, he is disappointed by the end result for his team.

"We had a lot of adversity this year and we fought through it," said Butler. "We didn't accomplish our goal, we were stopped one game short. I enjoyed playing with those guys, especially our seniors, they're a great group. We didn't come up with it in the end."

Butler left everything on the field during his junior season, impressing those in attendance each game. However, many college coaches have not gotten a glimpse yet. Soon, Butler will distribute his full-season highlight film to interested schools. Included on that list is Northwestern, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio State, and Vanderbilt, among others.

Thus far, Butler has not received any scholarship offers. That could change when coaches evaluate his film. Butler has yet to name any favorites in his recruitment.

"There aren't really any particular schools I can say I'm in love with right now, but there are a bunch of schools that I like," he said. "If I got offers from [different schools], that would pick up my interest."

Northwestern remains a school pushing for Butler's services. The interest is mutual; he last visited campus in September and hopes to return soon.

"Academics are a big thing in my book," said Butler, pointing to his top influence. "I also like the coaches. Coach Fitzgerald and I have a great relationship. ... Everything they have to offer is really cool."

Once college coaches get a look at Butler, his name is likely to rise up the recruiting boards.
