NU lands local product Fuessel

Northwestern landed its 19th verbal commitment of the 2013 recruiting class, adding Lincoln-Way East (Ill.) product Tommy Fuessel on Saturday.

Northwestern maintains a policy against poaching committed prospects from other schools. It's Pat Fitzgerald's ideal that a commitment should be honored. However, sometimes, it works out right.

Tommy Fuessel had pledged to Northern Illinois until Monday, when he opted to pursue other options. He reached out to Northwestern first, received a scholarship offer days later, and committed to the Wildcats' 2013 class on Saturday during an official visit.

A quarterback with Lincoln-Way East (Ill.), Fuessel committed to Northwestern's recruiting class with the "Athlete" label, meaning his position has not been decided.

Fuessel is the 19th addition to Northwestern's 2013 recruiting class, adding speed and versatility to a talented group.

NU may expand its class again this weekend. Three-star cornerback Marcus McShepard is being hosted on campus in Evanston, and has suggested to PurpleWildcats that a verbal commitment is possible.
