2014 three-star QB Clayton Thorson of Wheaton North (IL) told Beth Long of Scout on Sunday night that he committed to the Wildcats. Thorson chose NU over several other offers - including Illinois, Iowa, Penn State, Mississippi, and North Carolina State.
A versatile athlete, Thorson has considerable experience at wide receiver. He excels as an athlete and boasts impressive speed.
With 2013 standout quarterback Matt Alviti preparing to join the team in fall, a battle could be brewing in the coming years. There is always the chance that Thorson converts to wide receiver. For now, assume that the talented young signal callers will compete for future reps under center.
This marks another positive this spring for Northwestern football. The team has competed with energy in practice, and is making noise on the recruiting scene. Thorson is another step forward for this rapidly improving program.
Beth Long will talk with Thorson tomorrow and provide an update on why he made the decision to join NU.
