Sina released from letter of intent

It's a common procedure. After Bill Carmody was fired from Northwestern, Jerry Carino of Hoops Haven reported that 2013 three-star guard Jaren Sina will be granted release from his letter of intent.

Let the concerns begin.

After Bill Carmody was fired from his post at Northwestern, Jaren Sina asked to be released from his letter of intent.

Jerry Carino said the 2013 three-star guard from Gill St. Bernard's (NJ) "will keep Northwestern on his list pending the new hire." Still, he fielded significant interest from Alabama and Seton Hall before his initial commitment.

This is not at all uncommon. The fact that NU will likely grant the release shows its respect for Sina. However, the new hire figures to greatly influence his final decision.

It may tie back to assistant coach Fred Hill, who played a prominent role in Sina's recruitment. Hill - the former Rutgers head coach - flexed his New Jersey recruiting muscle throughout the initial process. If the new coach retains Hill, that would likely be significant to Sina.

For now, the Northwestern program can only hold its breath as the highly-touted recruit heads back to the open market.
