Source: Chris Collins contacted about NU job

This Purple Wildcats Insider update has more on Chris Collins, the frontrunner for the Northwestern head coaching job.

An insider source told Purple Wildcats on Wednesday that Chris Collins has been contacted about the Northwestern head coaching job.

The Duke associate head coach is considered the clear frontrunner to replace Bill Carmody in Evanston. The pressure is on athletic director Jim Phillips to make an excellent hire — and many believe Collins fits the mold.

The Northbrook native helped Duke recruit several Chicagoland prospects, including Jon Scheyer and Jabari Parker. Now in his thirteenth year under coach Mike Krzyzewski at Duke, Collins has expressed interest in joining the head coaching ranks. He had interest in the Illinois opening last season before John Groce was selected.

While NU is likely forced to wait until Duke finishes its tournament, the Collins speculation can only heat up. If Collins wants this job, it appears to be his.
