Brian James to Northwestern?

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Sunday that Brian James is likely to join the Chris Collins staff at Northwestern.

Bob Ford of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Sunday morning that 76ers assistant coach Brian James plans to join the Northwestern coaching staff once the NBA regular season concludes.

PW recently profiled James, who seems like an ideal addition for the Wildcats. James coached Chris at Glenbrook North HS and assisted his father, Doug, at several NBA stops including Philadelphia. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported on Sunday night that Doug will not return to the Sixers next season—making this all the more sensible.

Not only does James have a strong reputation for "X's and O's," he also holds obvious local ties and could infuse the new-look program with some professional experience.

Last week, Collins made the decision to retain former associate head coach Tavaras Hardy in an assistant's role. The two have reportedly established strong rapport, and saw 4-star power forward Paul White of Whitney Young (Ill.) visit campus this weekend.

Two assistant spots remain open, and the program is waiting anxiously to welcome more new faces.
