— Here are some players whose NU recruitments are all but over: Reid Travis, Paul White and Trevon Bluiett. When Tavaras Hardy left, the NU coaching staff adjusted its priorities to accommodate some more realistic targets. Especially in the Travis situation, Hardy anchored NU recruiting efforts for years. Collins had his distinct vision, and that ruled out some old but exciting candidates.
— Not to ruin anything quite yet, but NU has focused on some entirely new targets this week. I'm not going to make gratuitous mention of kids who were ruled out, but the process involves some mixing, matching and rejection. Chances are that some of the biggest names will not earn offers.
— Many players failed to stand out last week–mainly in Indianapolis–and will be forced to settle somewhere else. Northwestern has been especially selective and looks to build its class with some brand new faces. Of course, more to come there. One thing: They're still looking for that ideal stretch four, as extensively outlined in a recent article.
— Tyler Ulis appears the obvious number one priority for this team, and seems like the most attainable of the four-star targets as well. Michigan State, Iowa and NU have recently been floated around as the three favorites for Ulis. I'd still guess he ends up at Michigan State, but as of now, there's absolutely no reason to rule out Northwestern.
We'll have more updates from Milwaukee's Summer Jam AAU tournament and the NU recruiting trail this weekend.
