Recruiting Notes: On Lee, new movement

Some Northwestern recruiting notes on Brandon Lee, as well as 2015 target news from the Scout network.

Northwestern has one offer currently extended for the recruiting class of 2015, and even this appears to be an improbable land: Jashon Cornell, the No. 44 prospect in the nation, holds about two dozen offers already. The Wildcats gave another to Shaun Crawford, but the Lakewood (Ohio) cornerback committed to Michigan last month. They've moved slowly so far, but are sending coaches to various in-state schools during the bye week.

— Don't read too much into Brandon Lee's visit cancelation. The four-star Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence Central linebacker is still squarely in NU's plans. Though he may not be leaning towards the ‘Cats, you might think that Lee–very public about his recruitment–would keep fans posted if he cut any school. Players are in classes and other situations arise; you'll know if or when his NU recruitment actually ends.

— Northwestern is in pursuit of Stevenson (Ill.) 2015 WR Cameron Green. During the bye week, NU coaches have an obvious opportunity to visit in-state players. That also includes 2014 recruits, as they're expected to check out Glenbard North (Justin Jackson) and Wheaton North (Clayton Thorson) in the next stretch. As the recruiting personnel collects game film, they can check out prospects in person.

— Midwest Field Reporter Beth Long wrote on Sept. 12 that "Nile Sykes says Northwestern is one of the newest schools he's heard from." The Montini Catholic (Ill.) three-star linebacker left an impression early in his senior season. He's a late-rising prospect, and NU will be paying close attention—especially if the Brandon Lee hopes fall through.

— Some other early targets include RB Nas Bonner, LB LaCario Davison, DL Nick Dillon and OG Evan Mallory (who I spoke to at Purdue camp last spring). Expect the Wildcats to pick up the pace this next month.
