Malin Jones suspended

Malin Jones has been suspended for the remainder of the season.

Malin Jones' troubling season took another unfortunate turn.

"He's suspended indefinitely," Pat Fitzgerald said of the redshirt freshman. "He won't be playing for us the remainder of the year for a violation of team policy."

Jones began the season tumbling down the running back depth chart — becoming the sixth option out of the backfield. By the second week, NU tried to find a role for Jones, who had excelled on special teams.

The Wildcats settled on transitioning him to superback, where he rose to become the second option behind the steady Dan Vitale.

When Venric Mark and Stephen Buckley went down for the season, Jones took snaps at running back — perhaps signaling his readiness for an increased workload. However, he'll end the season with three carries for minus-two yards.

Jones is expected to return this spring, as are Venric Mark and several other running back options who should figure prominently. His career is off to the wrong kind of start.
