Northwestern gets winnable draw in Ga. Tech

Northwestern is set to play Georgia Tech in the 2014 B1G/ACC Challenge.

PurpleWildcats.com learned Thursday that Northwestern will play against Georgia Tech in the fabled B1G/ACC Challenge. The game will likely be played at Welsh-Ryan Arena—with official announcements coming within the hour.

After losing to North Carolina State last year—and Maryland the year before—NU finally landed a beatable opponent. Georgia Tech went just 16-17 (6-12 ACC) in its third season under coach Brian Gregory.

It will be one of the first early challenges, still, for a young Wildcats team with five true freshmen on the roster. There will be some pressure on NU to make a November statement—with this being an opportunity. The Yellow Jackets lose three of their top five scorers from the 2013-14 season, with next year being a major test for Gregory and the program.
