Northwestern Football Recruiting Guide

An A-to-Z list of Northwestern football recruiting targets, with a description of NU's efforts and chances.

A.J. Alexander
Three-star wide receiver
Burke (Va.) Lake Braddock

Ohio State recently offered Alexander, who visited Northwestern in April.

Alexander Update: Out of consideration

Zack Allen
Three-star defensive end
New Canaan (Conn.)

When Joe Gaziano committed, other defensive ends had to choose immediately. Allen pulled, adding to the Northeast trend.

Ugo Amadi
Three-star cornerback
Nashville (Tenn.) Overton Comp

Amadi "really liked" the way Northwestern recruited. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, geography prevailed on his shortlist.

Amadi Update: Committed to Mississippi

Markus Bailey
Three-star outside linebacker
Hilliard (Ohio)

Bailey plans to make a very late decision. By then, NU should have filled its linebacker class.

Asmar Bilal
Four-star outside linebacker
Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis

The four-star Indianapolis linebacker seemed like an ideal fit for Northwestern, but his recruitment never materialized.

Ryan Buchholz
Three-star defensive end
Malvern (Pa.) Great Valley

Shortly after picking up an NU offer, Buchholz pledged to Penn State.

Blake Camper
Three-star offensive tackle
Virginia Beach (Va.) Frank W. Cox

NU entered the picture early, offering Camper on an April visit. Though the chances are good, the ‘Cats offered just as Camper's profile shot up.

Camper update: Out of consideration

Brian Chaffin
Three-star center
Charlotte Christian (N.C.)

Chaffin built a strong relationship with Adam Cushing, but the Wildcats don't have a chance.

Gus Cumberlander
Three-star defensive end
Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove

A defensive end who didn't commit right away.

Sam Darnold
Three-star quarterback
San Clemente (Calif.)

Northwestern offered the San Clemente (Calif.) quarterback last week after Mick McCall watched him throw. He wants to play in warm weather, and close to home, but said he hopes to visit Evanston.

Darnold update: Visiting Northwestern at the end of June.

Andrew Dowell
Four-star running back
Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward

The four-star running back committed with his twin, David, as the ‘Cats added two elite prospects in one night.

David Dowell
Four-star cornerback
Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward

Dowell will play cornerback for Northwestern, adding to the now-vaunted secondary.

Mehdi El Attrach
Unranked wide receiver
Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona

El Attrach told that he was "all in" for Northwestern if the Wildcats offered. Twenty minutes after the story, they did. Get ready for a visit and potential commitment.

El Attrach update: Visiting Northwestern at the end of June.

Nathan Fox
Three-star middle linebacker
Houston (Tex.) Clear Lake

Out of nowhere, the Texan middle linebacker became the first player to commit to Northwestern for the 2015 recruiting cycle.

Aaron Garland
Unranked cornerback
Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick

With grades, Garland will get an offer.

Joe Gaziano
Three-star defensive end
Westwood (Mass.) Xaverian Brothers

Gaziano set the defensive end commitment process in motion, pledging to the ‘Cats after being sold early this spring.

Ryan Gibson
Three-star offensive lineman
Bay St. Louis (Miss.) St. Stanislaus

The Mississippi offensive lineman could pick up his 15th offer with a strong workout for Adam Cushing this week.

Gibson update: He left the workout without an offer.

Trent Goens
Three-star defensive end
Chino Hills (Calif.)

The Chino Hills defensive end chose Northwestern over Washington in an emotional decision—one truly predicated on the value of academics.

Jamie Gordinier
Three-star defensive end
Red Bank (N.J.)

Another New Jersey target, Gordinier had limited interest.

Gordinier update: Committed to Miami

Cameron Green
Three-star wide receiver
Lincolnshire (Ill.) Stevenson

The local wide receiver target visited Northwestern campus this past weekend. The Wildcats need to add to their receiving corps, soon.

Jaylinn Hawkins
Four-star wide receiver
Buena Park (Calif.)

In an interesting and exciting development, Hawkins plans to take an official visit to Northwestern.

Kraig Howe
Three-star defensive tackle
Kettering (Ohio) Alter

Early on, we thought Howe was a lock to commit. Instead, NU got a better defensive tackle in Ohio standout Jordan Thompson.

Cordel Iwuagwu
Three-star offensive lineman
Houston (Tex.) Westfield

He committed to TCU after picking up an NU offer.

Isaac James
Three-star wide receiver
Carmel (Ind.)

The intriguing receiver prospect could impress enough this spring and summer to earn a late offer from Northwestern.

James update: Told he's strongly considering NU

Darrin Kirkland
Four-star middle linebacker
Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence Central

He's a massive target—one a little too big for this NU team.

Kirkland update: Committed to Michigan

Adam Lemke-Bell Three-star offensive tackle Oak Park (Ill.)

Lemke-Bell picked up an offer from NU and committed on a visit at the end of May.

James Locke
Three-star cornerback
Beaumont (Tex.) Central Senior

The Wildcats got there first, but the three-star corner might look to one of his other 21 offers.

Billy Ray McCrary
Three-star wide receiver
Leander (Tex.) Rouse

McCrary committed to Southern Methodist shortly after picking up an offer from Northwestern.

Jalen Merrick
Three-star offensive guard
New Smyrna Beach (Fla.)

Northwestern grabbed the attention of Merrick, who should include Evanston on one of his many recruiting stops.

D.J. Moore
Three-star wide receiver
Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep

We haven't yet confirmed his offer, but Moore is another speedy wide receiver target. Of course, Northwestern could use guys like him.

John Moten
Three-star running back
St. Louis (Mo.) John Burroughs

Moten searched for the elusive "perfect fit," and found it in Northwestern, committing after his second campus visit.

Jacob Murray
Two-star cornerback
Coppell (Tex.)

Murray earned an offer from Northwestern, which wants to add a second—and perhaps eventually a third—defensive back.

Grant Newsome
Four-star offensive tackle
Lawrenceville (N.J.)

The elite prospect enjoyed his Northwestern visit. Still, he appears to be focused on Michigan and Penn State.

Bolu Olorunfunmi
Three-star running back
Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North

Olorunfunmi, a fringe target, committed to UCLA.

Andrew Otterman
Unranked offensive lineman
Morristown (N.J.) Delbarton reported his stealth commitment last weekend. He held offers from Syracuse and Fordham, but barely anyone else recruited him.

Jason Pellerin
Unranked quarterback
New Iberia (La.) Catholic

NU offered Pellerin, who has riveting highlight tape. Pellerin called it an "honor," with his visit date set for June 6. This is an exciting and noteworthy trip.

Pellerin update: Committed to Mississippi following his Northwestern visit

Bryce Perkins
Three-star quarterback
Chandler (Ariz.)

An early target for Northwestern, Perkins committed to Arizona at the beginning of April.

Tyler Petite
Three-star superback
Moraga (Calif.) Campolindo

He placed NU in his top three with USC and Stanford. The other two are difficult to beat.

Christian Philpott
Three-star wide receiver
Tallahassee (Fla.) North Florida Christian

Matt Pistone
Unranked superback
Yuma (Ariz.)

NU could use to address its superback position, and Bob Heffner recently offered Pistone.

Don't count on this going anywhere.

Isaiah Renfro
Four-star wide receiver
Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon

Expect Northwestern to make a late push for the elite, quiet prospect out of California.

Jacob Robinson
Three-star defensive end
Westfield (Ind.)

The Wildcats had one defensive lineman spot remaining, so Jordan Thompson became the sole priority.

Trevor Ruhland
Three-star offensive guard
Cary (Ill.) Cary Grove

Ruhland never had any local lean. He pledged to Notre Dame.

Austin Seibert
Three-star kicker
Belleville (Ill.) Beleville West

This one hurt. Seibert spurned Northwestern for Oklahoma, with the Sooners continuing to pluck Wildcats targets.

Justice Shelton-Mosley
Three-star cornerback
Sacramento (Calif.) Capital Christian

Northwestern believes it can land Shelton-Mosley, and sent out an important offer to him in March.

Shelton-Mosley update: Placed NU in his top 10, with the Wildcats a likely destination if the spot stays open.

Simba Short
Three-star outside linebacker
Concord (Calif.) De La Salle

We expected him to commit sooner rather than later. Hasn't happened, yet.

Short update: Committed to Northwestern

Freddie Simmons
Three-star wide receiver
Bethlehem (Pa.) Bethlehem Catholic

The wide receiver search will expand, and that could include Simmons.

Equanimeous St. Brown
Four-star wide receiver
Anaheim (Calif.) Servite

St. Brown plans to visit Northwestern, giving the Wildcats a chance even against his other excellent offers.

Jihree Stewart
Three-star cornerback
Corona (Calif.) Centennial

NU's taking the time to recruit Stewart. We'll see if he takes time to consider the Wildcats.

Jared Thomas
Three-star offensive guard
Indianapolis (Ind.) Cathedral

Still a favorite to commit, Thomas will take other visits. That spot could disappear while he waits.

Thomas update: Waiting very long.

Jordan Thompson
Three-star defensive tackle
Cincinnati (Ohio) La Salle

Alabama? No. Notre Dame? No. Northwestern? Yes. A huge get.

Tyriq Thompson
Four-star outside linebacker
Detroit (Mich.) King

Pat Fitzgerald led this competitive recruitment. Thankfully, the linebacker corps is just fine. Thompson will likely choose between Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State.

Tommy Vitale
Three-star outside linebacker
Wheaton (Ill.) Warrenville South

NU kept it in the family by offering—and getting a quick commitment out of—Dan's brother Tommy.

Travis Waller
Four-star quarterback
Anaheim (Calif.) Servite

NU still pursues the very best. Waller, a four-star quarterback from Anaheim, should visit Evanston in June.

Waller update: Visiting Northwestern at the end of June.

Keith Washington
Three-star athlete
Freeport (Tex.) Brazoswood

Washington wants to play quarterback. Northwestern offered him as an athlete. We'll see how this goes.

Washington update: Planning another visit to campus.

Lloyd Yates
Unranked athlete
Oak Park (Ill.) River Forest

Yates threw for Mick McCall. He's the NU prototype: An underrated local player with high potential and versatility.
