2015 PF Dererk Pardon commits to Northwestern

Dererk Pardon, a quiet but important prospect, visited and committed to Northwestern on Saturday.

Dererk Pardon confirmed his Northwestern commitment to PurpleWildcats.com on Saturday—another solid boost for the Wildcats program.

NU needed a power forward for its 2015 recruiting class. With only one true big on the roster, Alex Olah, they let Pardon know of his potential role.

"They told me and my parents how I would fit into the system," Pardon told PurpleWildcats.com. "It was very important: They're very thin on the front line."

The Wildcats are very selective regarding who they offer, but sent one to the 3-star Cleveland prospect over winter break. It's an excellent strategy: They want to hone in on kids early, let their interest be known, and then close with a couple of visits.

Pardon visited Evanston before and said he was "iffy" on making a decision, but traveled back and was sold on the "whole staff and the whole atmosphere."

Asked to describe his game, Pardon gave the exact explanation Northwestern fans have been waiting for:

"I'm very defensive-minded, with energy, and I crash the boards a lot," he said.

Pardon joins Jordan Ash as part of the strong 2015 recruiting class.
