2015 WR Charlie Fessler talks NU offer

2015 WR Charlie Fessler of Erie (Pa.) Cathedral HS details his offer from Northwestern.

The Northwestern coaching staff pulled Charlie Fessler aside prior to its camp last Thursday. They told him he could earn an offer if his performance was convincing.

No pressure.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound receiver from Erie (Pa.) Cathedral High performed in several drills and one-on-ones, trying to show the coaching staff what they might miss on film. In the end, Fessler separated himself enough to earn an important offer.

"There was never really a time where I thought I got to that point," Fessler told PurpleWildcats.com. "But I guess I did well enough."

The Wildcats desperately need two solid receivers for the class—with that being their one struggle for the class of 2015. They must like their chances to land Orlando prospect Mehdi El Attrach, or perhaps local wideout Cameron Green, but will cast a "wide net" regardless.

Fessler watched his recruitment speed up after earning offers from schools including Boston College and Nebraska. Still, Northwestern was one he focused on immediately, and he was thrilled after Pat Fitzgerald extended an offer.

"It hadn't really picked up until a week ago," Fessler said. "I spoke with Coach Cushing on the phone and Coach Springer on the phone. They really asked me to come down to camp.

"I've been pretty interested. I was down there with my parents and my older brother. This was really a school that we wanted."

Fessler has no favorites or decision timeline—which makes sense given his growing profile. He plans to visit Boston College on Thursday and Friday, with a trip to Penn State camp shortly after.

In that time, Northwestern will try to build on its early relationship with Fessler, knowing he could help to address a key need.
