Monday 2 Deep Changes for Indiana

Time to get out the highlighter and compare 2-Deeps for Indiana vs the previous game.

The Cats' are settling into their respective starting roles, but there are a couple of changes...

Changes on the 2 Deep:
Not much to report this week.

On offense:
Soph Guard Greg Lutzen [6-4 295 - NU Photo above] has been listed as the backup for both RG Matt Ulrich and LG Ikechuku Ndukwe after the indefinite suspension of RS Senior Guard Bill Newton.

Newton was suspended from the team October 5th. The Daily Herald reports that Newton, along with Scott Crohn, was arrested Saturday night and were suspended by Coach Walker on Sunday. His loss puts additional pressure on an already thin Offensive Line.

Lutzen was injured at Camp Kenosha [knee] but has returned in an backup role as he works to become a starter again.

On Defense:
RS Senior Safety Louis Ayeni, who had been listed as a backup for the last two games, is not listed for Indiana. A Shoulder Stinger suffered against Kansas is apparently still keeping him from play. He had earned the starting role in the preseason and had played well against the JayHawks.

His left safety role was taken first by Junior Marvin Ward, who had such a great game against Air Force, then by Junior Dominique Price as Ward moved back to cornerback.

Soph Fredric Tarver will be backing up Torri Stuckey at right safety.

Of course, right Defensive Tackle Colby Clark is again listed as starting after sitting last week for what were called "academic issues."

As you know, "defensive starters" are a relative term. DC Greg Colby moves players in and out based on down and field position. The Defensive Backfield, still smarting from last week's Gopher air show, should be out to regain some respect. In any case Ayeni will be missed.

Other Observations:

Rumbles from the coach after the Minnesota game suggest that Alexander Webb will see even more playing time this week, as Brett Basanez works through his production problems.

This is just my opinion:
But what I think we're seeing this year are players who do very well in practice, but somehow fall down on the field. There's no explaination for it, but it does drive coaches nuts.
