Back to the 3 guard offense
as Northwestern opens the season with NCAA tournament veteran Colorado tonight. The Buffs won 20 games last year, and really scared MSU in the first round of the NCAA's last year. The game is on WGN starting at 8:00 PM CST. Dave Eanet has the Play by play, Shon Morris is the analyst. The Purple Reign Free Chat room will also be open.
The Buffaloes come in featuring 270 lb 7-0 Junior Center David Harrison, a preseason All American who averaged 13.9 points and 8.3 rebounds a game.
They also bring in scoring leader Michael Morandais who averages nearly 17 points a game. T.J. Parker's played against him, and I guess he's ready to lay some french trash talk on the West Indies native.
Their coach just got a big 3 year contract extension.
Expect a lineup that starts
Then look for freshman center Vince Scott [6-10 220] to earn more and more playing time as the season progresses and he picks up the offense.
- T.J. Parker at Point Guard
- Mohamed Hachad at Shooting Guard
- Jitim Young [6-2 190] at "Forward" Guard
- Vedran Vukusic [6-8] as Power Forward
- Davor Duvancic [6-8 220] at Center
Soph 3 Point Wizard Evan Seacat will also be back filling his role as NU's "mad bomber." I'd expect to see his minutes increase as his touch keeps improving and his long balls drop. I'd love to see him start to pour the long ball in, so the crowd can start chanting his name, something that's perfect for the Cats.
The other scholarship player is RS Frosh Center Ivan Tolic [6-9 255] who is still rehabbing from his tendonitis knee surgery. He's got to work in slowly, but he was expected to be the guy at center for the Cats last year.
The NU roster has filled out in recent days. 5-9 Junior Shooting Guard Michael Jenkins, who didn't play last year, has returned to the team. He's small, but he also has worked in the NU system, and sinks his free throws. I'm sure he gives the big guys fits when he drives to the basket.
Beat 'em All!
