McGarigle Sweeps Weekly "D" Awards

Earlier in the day, NU Junior Middle Linebacker Tim McGarigle was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Northwestern defense with a career-high 21 tackles (eight solo stops) and a pass break-up. The Wildcats' defense held Purdue's offense to a season-low 210 passing yards and 10 points, including a shutout for the final three quarters, in a narrow three-point victory.

McGarigle, who entered the weekend leading the nation in solo tackles per game and ranking ninth in total tackles per outing, is currently tied with Ohio State's A.J. Hawk for the Big Ten lead with 12.6 defensive stops per contest although he leads Hawk 14.4 tackles per game to 14.2 tpg in Big 10 games. He has 101 Tackles, 69 Solo in the 8 games played this year, including a Sack, 3 breakups, 2 QB Hurries, and 5 tackles for loss.

This is McGarigle's first Big 10 weekly laurel. He also won the NU Defensive Player of the Game this week, and the Hilton Garden Inn Male Wildcat of the Week award.
