Runningback Noah Herron was headed for paydirt when he took a big hit just short of the goal line.
Noah Herron: [AP Photo left] It was funny, I was kinda like I woke up in the 2nd quarter - I don't know - we're in the game - You know it felt funny, like I had no idea where I really was at first and then, I saw the crowd, I saw our team, OK I'm at the game.Next up is Defensive Tackle Luis Castillo [AP Photo right]
I remember warming up, but I don't really remember the plays. The second half is kinda like the first half. At halftime I got my head back together and OK, now its time to make some plays.
Was asked about all his rushing yardage and the offensive line.
NH: I can't say enough about them, you know? I'm just glad, I'm fortunate to run behind them for two years straight. I owe them all dinner.
You can't say enough about them - they work so hard- we've really done a lot to get this running game going because teams know we're going to run the ball. We still need to establish that run game so you know they've worked real hard.
Lets talk about that last series - needing 2 first downs to ice the game.
NH: You know that's what you have to do - you can't take chances throwing the ball, maybe throw an interception or what not, Just trying to grind them out - its called interior in practice. We just run inside run plays all the time - its really what it came down to, we looked at each other we say, "this is like interior."
Now the Cats are 3-2 in conference and 5-4 overall.
NH: Man, you know, we're in a lot different place than in the start of the season. We had some heart breakers then and you know we really bounced back and perservered in the second half of the season.
You know, this is a credit to our team - how hard we worked. Even with the heartbreak losses, we never folded in. We decided we're going to make something happen.
NU is finding a way to win games now.
NH: That's what it comes down to, finding a way. Every game in the Big 10 is rough, Penn State was 0 and 5 but they played us just as hard as anybody else - that's the way we have to go about it.
Talk about the Defensive Game Plan
Luis Castillo: Its a great one to come in here, coming off two years ago, they put 49 - something like that - ran on us - its a school record, you know we were motivated to come in here and play a great game and we did.
At the end of the game there were some awesome stops.
LC: You know we were in a tough situation. They were starting to move the ball on us, they were in a pretty good field position all day and guys were really able to step up. We had some pressure on the quarterback, the DBs did a really great job of covering 'em up back there, so it worked out great.
Have you been to the "Big House yet?
LC: I can't wait to get there - never been there.
After the game, coach Walker asked LB Coach Pat Fitzgerald about playing in the Big House
LC: [He said] Its great to win there. Its college football atmosphere at its best. Its great to get a chance to play at a place like that. We're excited about that.
