NU has a better Field Goal percentage [.456-.445] 3 Point percentage [.330 - .315] more Assists, fewer turnovers and more steals.
The Wolverines were a team on the way to a great season. They had lost in the semi-finals of the preseason NIT, and were playing well until January 19th when the wheels came off. All told, 8 different Wolverines have missed games due to injuries this year.
The Wolverine's season also took a big blow when Daniel Horton got arrested and tossed from the team. Last time we played, Horton stung the Cats for 24 points and 2 steals. NU won't miss him in the lineup.
But if you look at their last game, the win over Penn State, some different names are starting to emerge - Dion Harris [left] and Ron Coleman. Against the Lions, Harris tied a career high with 24 points and set a new career best with 10 field goals, to go along with six rebounds and two steals. He's been Michigan's leading scorer 4 of the 7 games in February
Of course Harris was one of the Big 10's star Frosh Guards last year, but freshman Ron Coleman [right], playing at wing, is also starting to make a statement
Coleman complemented Harris' performance against PSU with 16 points, including four first-half three-pointers, and five boards.
Another surprise is the play of Dani Wohl - he had 6 steals against Penn State.
The probable starting lineup for Saturday has played 2 games together. They've split 1-1 with the Coleman, Brown Sims, Harrell and Harris lineup, losing to Indiana, and beating Penn State.
But as NU's Coach Bill Carmody said [after the game with Illinois]....
We bring out the best in 3 point shooters it seems all year we have and Michigan has been struggling - they're winning tonight, but we've never had much success. The big bright spot is that the last time Michigan beat Penn State, they then went on to lose 10 straight games. They broke thatr loss streak with a win over Penn State Wednesday.
They've lost several guys, but they're still a very long and very talented team so we're clearly going to have to play better ...
- 8 of the Wolverines make 70% or better from the charity stripe
- They have 2 starters who hit a third of their 3 point attempts
- A lot of players with playing time - 12 different guys have starts for Tommy Amaker.
- 14 Different linups in 28 games this season.
- Have to play NU at home
- Don't have the guy who scored all the points this time
- Lester Abram - Shoulder - out for season

Challenges for the Wildcats:
- Get back into their defense - Illinois took us out of our matchup zone with long 3 pointers
- Someone besides [and along with] Mo and Vedran have to step up
- Keep Harris and Sims off the scoreboard - see the note about Defense above.
- Make Layups and Freethrows - the same thing all year...
- No Cheap Treys!
