First of all I want to start off by saying congrats to Vedran on a good season. He would be finished this year but he has another year due to red-shirt. Today I read the all Bigten list and saw Luther and Dee Brown two Chicago kids that grew up in the same area as Jitim. Illinois had a great season, and those kids deserve all the awards given.
Then I think back to last season, Coach of the year (Carmody), First-team and all tourney (Jitim), Vedran (all bigten)and this year was a let down based on last years' strides. I agree with LoveMO and others who say that it's difficult to play for a program who limits the ability of a player. People say that Jitim led this team last year and he did, but it wasn't through the offense it was because he wasn't as robotic and as predictable as some of these players are on the team.
Indiana last year no post season this year a chance to reach the tournament; that's productive.
Mohamed Hachad is probably the best 6'5 guard in the country but no one will ever discover that because of the system in which limits his abilities at NU. I understand that Carmondy has his philosophies, but as a "coach of the year" one should recognize his teams abilities as well as weaknesses. Mohammed Hachad is a great passer, ball handler, leaper, and defender but what he focus on is Mo turns the ball over. Do we ever focus on the little things he does to help Northwestern's team?
Mo the best player in Canada came to Norhwestern University and with all his God-given talents this is what he can get out of him. Had he decided to go to Kansas or Kentucky Mo would be a regular on Sportscenter.
Michael Jenkins he has been at NU for a long time now and we have just now discovered his ability to help this team. I thought he was a freshman!!! In four years we never focused on his ability to defend, run the team, all we did was say that he is too short! Imagine what Northwestern's defense would have been like last season with Young, Hachad, and Jenkins. This season we stumbled across Mike Jenkins, and he showed us that he can play.
Northwestern needs to stop being so last minute with their discoveries. Jitim the best player on the team for 4 years, NU let him loose 2 years. Ed McCants didn't even play look at him now player of the year going to the NCAA. Mike Jenkins 3 years at NU this season he is used. To me he should have been sharing time with Collier Drayton.
This season I watched Luther, Dee Brown, and Deron have a great season these kids know how to play the game of basketball at any level. When Northwestern kids graduate they will not understand the game of basketball at a higher level unless the are fortunate enough to work out over the summer with Pros, play in good summer leagues, or come from areas in which the basketball is played at a high level like it is in Chicago.
The difference between Young and many of the Wildcats is every year he found a way to improve in that offense to show who he really was as a player. Guys in the NBA said good things about his game, Tim Grover liked his game, and he improved and his team improved.
I hope the next year Mohammed and Vedran even TJ parker can improve this team. Otherwise we will get excited over nothing again. Mohamed I hope that you have a great summer maybe even try to do some NBA workouts just to see for yourself how good you really are. Next season Mo I hope you show the Nation that you are REAL, I also hope that you are allowed to be great!!!!!!!!!
