Moe Dampeer fever is spreading like wildfire. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't receive a call from a college coach asking about the 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive tackle.
Heck, I've had other top prospects in Illinois call and ask about the phenom from Decatur, Illinois.
Dampeer had 96 solo tackles, 27 assists and 13 sacks as a junior. He had 16 sacks as a sophomore.
"I saw a lot of double teams last year. It was frustrating." Dampeer said.
What does Moe have planned for the spring and the summer?
"I'm going to the Illinois spring game and I'll probably go the Northwestern spring game. I'll be going to the (Michigan State) Nike Camp but I don't think I'm going to work out.
"I want to take a tour of the Michigan State campus and check things out."
Dampeer has been offered scholarships by Illinois, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue, Missouri and Miami (Fla.).
More offers will come his way in May and during the summer. Look for Dampeer to be on every All-American team, he's that good.
"My favorites are Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue and Illinois. Tennessee is starting to drop.
I'm starting to have a lot more interest in Florida and Florida State.
I like Illinois a lot because they're rebuilding and it's close to home and I like Miami because of the tradition and National Championships.
I like Florida State because of Bobby Bowden. How could you argue about Coach Bowden and Florida State. That's the big time."
Moe Dampeer is a terrific football player. He just may be the best defensive lineman I've ever laid eyes on.
There have been a lot of good ones. Tommie Harris was good enough to start at Oklahoma as a true freshman. Dampeer is in his class.
