Focus 2007 - TE Austin Szafranski

Austin Szafranski, a 6-foot-3, 217-pound, tight end, from Arlington Heights (Ill.) St. Viator is a prospect that will get plenty of looks in 2006. Szafranski was the main target for Vanderbilt bound quarterback Jared Funk in 2005. Szafranski talks about the schools that have made early contact and more.

Szafranski attended the U.S. Army National Combine last month in San Antonio and he had several people whispering about his talents.

Austin showed very well in the Alamo Dome against some of the nation's top linebackers and defensive backs.

"I don't have any scholarship offers right now," Austin Szafranski said.

"I've been getting a lot of mail and stuff. I think things are just beginning to take off with me on the recruiting front.

"Indiana, Miami (Ohio), Northwestern, Iowa and Wisconsin have all been sending steady mail.

"My favorites are Northwestern, UCLA, Iowa, Duke, Vanderbilt, Miami (Ohio) and North Carolina."

Szafranski has started to mark his calendar with junior day visits.

"I've been invited to Northwestern for their junior day on March 4th." Szafranski said.

"I plan on camping at Northwestern and Iowa for a day. Nothing else has been set up yet."

Szafranski carries a 3.8 GPA in the classroom.
