Blackhawks Will Play Key Role

An emerging Ohio prospect has been offered a scholarship by Northwestern and he's an avid hockey fan that likes Jeremy Roenick and the Chicago Blackhawks.

"I have scholarship offers from Northwestern, Purdue, Michigan State, Vanderbilt and all of the MAC schools, said offensive lineman Kirk Barton.

"I'm talking with Ohio State but they haven't offered. I went to the Ohio State invitation camp and I felt like I held my own against the best defensive lineman in the state.

"Right now I'd say that Northwestern would be my leader. Nobody ever accused anyone at Northwestern of being dumb. Plus I like the city of Chicago.

"I'm a big hockey fan and I'd be able to go watch the Blackhawks.

"I'm thinking I'll be receiving a lot more scholarship offers as well. I just started to send me game films from this year out.

"I don't have any visits set up yet but it's a good bet that I'll visit Northwestern, Purdue and Pittsburgh."

Barton, a 6-foot-6, 275-pounder, from Massillon (Ohio) Perry is a two-year varsity starter and he was named all-league two years in a row.

Barton's teammate Zach Slates is verbally committed to Pittsburgh.

Barton is being recruited by Northwestern assistant coach Jack Glowik.
