'Cats Offer Florida Lineman

One of Florida's top offensive line prospects has a Northwestern scholarship offer and he says the Wildcats are among his leaders.

"I've been offered scholarships by Northwestern, Wake Forest, Purdue, Duke, Southern Mississippi, West Virginia and Furman," said offensive lineman Austin Matthews.

"I'm visiting Northwestern (11-15) this weekend. I'm going to Wake Forest (12-6) and Vanderbilt (1-10) as well.

"Florida is calling me every week but they haven't offered me a scholarship yet. The three schools that I have visits set up with and Florida would be my favorites."

Matthews, a 6-foot-6, 275-pounder, from Orange Park, Florida is a three-year varsity starter. He was named all-conference the past two seasons, all-city as a junior and this year he was nominated for the Georgia-Florida all-star game.

Matthews has played every position on the offensive line and he says some schools are recruiting him as a tackle and some want him as a summer.

What will it take to get a signature from Austin Matthews on February 5th?

"I'm looking for a city campus. That's what makes Northwestern (Chicago) and Vanderbilt (Nashville) so appealing.

"I'm looking for a smaller campus and student body. Vanderbilt has 10,000 students and Florida has 45,000 students.

"Obviously I'll be looking for a comfort level. I need to be comfortable around the coaches and the players." Matthews said.
