Florida's Matthews Pledges NU

Randy Walker welcomes the verbal commitment of Florida offensive lineman Austin Matthews. Matthews talks about why he chose the Wildcats over Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and others.

"I'm committed to Northwestern," said offensive lineman Austin Matthews.

"I came back home from my visit last weekend (11-15) and I talked it over with my parents and my coach.

"Northwestern had everything I was looking for. An Ivy League education, Big Ten football, a beautiful campus and the city of Chicago.

"I loved Evanston and to have Chicago so close, I thought that was really nice."

Matthews, a 6-foot-6, 275-pounder, from Orange Park, Florida is a three-year varsity starter that was named all-area in 2002. He's also been nominated to play in the Georgia-Florida All-Star game.

Matthews joins fellow Floridian Kyle Wagner as well as Adam Kadela (Ohio) and Warren Anderson (California) in what's shaping up to be a very nice recruiting class for Randy Walker and the Wildcats.
