"We Didn't Make the Plays at the End"

But WGN's Dave Kaplan called it a true Big 10 Game and so it was, as the Iowa Hawkeyes hung on to defeat Northwestern Wednesday night, 69-63.

The Wildcats came out on fire, taking an early lead, but the Hawkeyes came back and had a 2 point lead at the half.

In the second stanza, the Cats scored early, but the Hawkeyes worked out to a big lead, only to have the Cats chip away.

It was a 2 point game under a minute, but the Cats just couldn't get shots to fall and Iowa had won their Big 10 Opener, and the first game at Welsh-Ryan in 3 years.

Leading scorer for the Wildcats was Aaron Jennings who played much of the 2nd half with 3 fouls. Jennings hit 6-1 and 2-6 from the arc (and 2 FTs) for 16 Points.

TJ Parker was awarded the 5th 3rd Bank's Hard Working Player of the Game by WGN. He had 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal.

Also in double figures were Jitim Young [6-9 1-1] for 13, and Jason Burke [3-7, 2-4 & 3 FT] for 11. Jim Maley broke his scoring drought with 5 points, Winston Blake had 6 for the Cats.

Next up are the Boilermakers of Purdue - Saturday morning at 11 AM CST.
